Portland, located in the Pacific Northwest, is the largest city in the US state of Oregon. It serves as a port city and is situated at the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette rivers. Multnomah County's county seat, Portland has a population of 652,503 as of 2020, making it the 26th most populous city in the US, the sixth on the West Coast, and the second in the Pacific Northwest after Seattle. The Portland metropolitan statistical area, with approximately 2.5 million residents, ranks 25th in the United States. Nearly half of Oregon's population lives in the Portland metro area.

Portland experiences a warm-summer Mediterranean climate with mild and rainy winters and warm and dry summers, just shy of a hot-summer Mediterranean climate. Being in the path of the stormy westerly flow, Portland has fluctuating weather conditions in the fall, winter, and spring, which are overcast and wet. However, the city enjoys warm and dry summers when the North Pacific High reaches its northernmost point in mid-summer.
