Panama City, situated within Bay County, Florida, is a prominent urban center serving as the county seat. Strategically positioned along the well-traveled U.S. Highway 98, this bustling metropolis stands as the largest city between Tallahassee and Pensacola. As the principal hub of the Panama City–Lynn Haven, Florida metropolitan statistical area, it boasts a significant population. However, Hurricane Michael, a Category 5 hurricane, dealt a severe blow to this vibrant city when it made landfall on October 10, 2018, causing significant damage. Despite its resilience, the city's latest census figures for 2020 indicate a decline in population from the 2010 census figure of 36,484, with the current figure standing at 35,392. Of note, Panama City's incorporation in 1909 saw its original city limits defined by 15th Street on the north, Balboa Avenue on the west, and Bay Avenue on the east.

Panama City, a metropolis situated in the Central Time Zone, distinguishes itself from its eastern neighbor Tallahassee in this regard. In 2006, CNN's Business 2.0 magazine awarded Panama City the title of the best real estate investment opportunity in the United States. The city is serviced by two hospitals, namely Ascension Sacred Heart Bay (renamed after Hurricane Michael's destruction of a significant portion of Bay Medical Sacred Heart) and HCA Florida Gulf Coast Medical Center. A myriad of notable individuals hail from Panama City, including Mike Campbell, the lead guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jaye Chapman, a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, Donnie Craft, a prominent gridiron football player, Clint Daniels, a renowned country music artist, and Codi Galloway, a member of the Idaho House of Representatives.
