Little Rock, the capital of the state of Arkansas and the most populous city in the region, boasts a burgeoning population of 204,405 inhabitants as of 2022, as reported by the United States Census Bureau. Established as the county seat of Pulaski County on November 7, 1831, the city was situated on the south bank of the Arkansas River, strategically close to the state's geographic center.

Interestingly, Little Rock owes its name to a remarkable rock formation along the river that was dubbed "Le Petit Rocher" or "Little Rock" in French, by the French explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe in 1722. In 1821, Little Rock was designated as the new capital of the Arkansas Territory, which was previously based in Arkansas Post.
